POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Manager of Sales and Events is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive events sales and event execution plan. Duties include overseeing the team working with potential and current event clients, and leading the team executing the event, inclusive of the A/V team and their support of all events at the Museum. This includes effectively communicating with current and prospective clients, managing department staff and vendors, collaborating effectively with other departments, generating new business, and leading the team to achieve revenue targets. Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage a group of team members in the sales, booking and successful execution of all events. Set performance standards, manage workflow, engage and motivate staff, grant authorities, evaluate performance, and recommend personnel actions within delegated authorities.
- Meet weekly with direct reports to monitor sales trends, bookings, department productivity, and work collaboratively to identify opportunities to enhance and optimize the events process and communication.
- Create and monitor budgets to ensure revenue and expenses are kept within established parameters. Review financial information for accuracy, such as invoices for services and materials, and prepare financial summaries.
- Develop and train staff to have the capabilities and abilities to perform their duties with a high level of efficiency, effectiveness, timeliness, and professionalism. Take prompt and appropriate corrective actions to address staff performance and/or behavioral issues. Consult with Human Resources (HR) as appropriate.
- Responsible for oversight of all events contracted through the events team;
- Oversee the strategy and use of all event space to maximize revenue and achieve budget goals;
- Coordinate and collaborate effectively with internal partners to ensure successful business relationships.
- Work to constantly make processes and relationship management more effective and efficient.
- Streamline these relationships maximizing principles of high-end customer service and experience.
- Work with internal partners to develop a program for revenue generating events including concerts, seasonal brunches/dinners, guest speakers etc.
- Provide daily events report on execution of events -including feedback from events and meetings, to executives and other key stakeholders;
- Support Easter and Christmas planning initiatives within the Museum, specifically seasonal décor, musical performances, special events and activities.
- Ensure Event operations works within the spirit of the Museum’s primary mission to engage all people with the transformative power of the Bible;
- Other Duties as Assigned by the Chief Development Officer and the Director of Strategic Engagement.
Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Sales, Business or related field and/or equivalent experience in planning and implementing special events and/or management.
- 7 years’ experience in planning and implementing special events.
- Experience creating and managing budgets
- Experience in managing a team
- Experience serving and interacting with VIPs, such as high-profile donors, dignitaries.
- Excellent negotiation skills with an understanding of contract terms and conditions.
- Knowledge of catering, banquet and event planning best practices.
- Exemplary interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Devotion and commitment to high-end customer service to provide and exceptional experience at Museum of the Bible.
- Ability to communicate objectives and work efficiently with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and projects and meet deadlines.
