Position Title: Public Programs Associate

Location: Washington, DC

Division / Department: Curatorial, Museum Education

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Schedule: Part-Time, will include evenings and wekeends.*

Reporting Manager: Amen Temesgen – Public Programs Manager

Pay Rate: $25, per hour

Position Summary

The Museum Education Public Programs Associate supports the planning, coordination, and execution of logistics for all public programs within the Education Department. This role coordinates a range of initiatives, including ongoing daytime programming such as curator-led gallery talks, as well as special daytime and evening events.

The Associate helps organize the development and implementation of college seminars and works cross-functionally with internal departments including customer service, marketing, and facilities to support successful program delivery. They maintain and update the master schedule of all programs and contribute to a consistent and high-quality guest experience.

Additionally, the role supports relationship management with scholars and internal partners to encourage continued engagement in museum programming. Following each event, the Associate compiles and tracks program data including attendance, ticket sales, digital engagement, revenue, and expenses, and assists in preparing reports to evaluate program effectiveness and inform future planning for the Director of Museum Education.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement all public programs offered at Museum of the Bible through the Education Department including, but not limited to, Speaker Series, Lunch and Learns, Conferences, etc.
  • Implement initiatives, according to the Annual Calendar of Education Programs, working towards the growth of the number of participants in each program and the growth of revenue.
  • Research topics as needed for public programs and other museum programming for implementation of new ideas and content.
  • Lead weekly floor programming like Did You Knows and Pop-Up Sessions.
  • Work with external scholars and collaborators to support diverse programming on the history, stories, and impact of the Bible.
  • Work with other Museum Departments including, but not limited to, Marketing, Creative, Events, AV/IT, Facilities, to implement programming.
  • Work collaboratively with School and Family Programs, and Audience Engagement to create immersive daily and monthly programming.
  • Designs and delivers college‑level curriculum informed by museum exhibitions, creating interactive and engaging learning experiences tailored to adult learners.
  • Work closely and directly with the Public Programs Manager to plan and execute all programming
  • Meet with the Director of Education weekly to discuss the status of Public Programs.
  • Support Department Initiatives set by Director of Education.
  • Attend and support department meetings, department lead meetings, and all-curatorial meetings.
  • Develop learning outcomes and evaluation metrics for each public program offered by the museum and ensure that these outcomes are met through ongoing assessment.
  • Ability to use technology to stream programs (like Zoom, Teams, Vimeo and other platforms).
  • Communicate the needs for PTO or time-off for the Director of Education, taking in consideration the schedule of events to not compromise the achievement of any event’s goals.
  • Champion the Museum of the Bible’s mission to invite all people to engage with the transformative power of the Bible.
  • As required, inclusion in official or incidental photographs and videos for MOTB and/or guests.

Qualifications & Requirements

Knowledge

  • Education: bachelor’s degree in museum education, museum studies or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience: Two to four (2-4) years of immersive program development in a museum or non-traditional classroom setting, two to four (2-4) years of scheduling and coordination experience, two to four (2-4) years of project coordination or management experience, two to four (2-4) years of communicating complex and nuanced ideas with a diverse group of individuals and have a background, or be interested, in biblical studies.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), and be able to learn additional software packages essential for museum operations (Tessitura, Wrike, etc.)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and be able to work in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities.
  • Must be a team player who enjoys improving organization, communication, and programming, and is willing to assist with problem-solving.
  • The ideal candidate is collaborative and willing to assist where needed.
  • Able to work Sundays consistently and evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Travel to conferences as needed by the Director of Education.
  • Stand for extended periods of time and be able to lift 50 lbs.
