Job Title: Automotive Internet Sales Director
Position Summary
The Automotive Internet Sales Director is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the dealership’s online sales operations. This role focuses on generating qualified leads, improving digital customer engagement, optimizing the online buying process, and ensuring a seamless transition from online inquiry to in-store delivery. The Internet Sales Director drives revenue growth through effective lead management, team leadership, digital marketing coordination, and performance analytics.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Develop and implement a comprehensive internet sales strategy aligned with dealership sales goals.
Manage and motivate the internet sales team to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
Establish performance metrics and regularly evaluate team results through CRM and DMS reporting.
Coordinate closely with the General Sales Manager, Marketing Director, and Fixed Ops leadership to align online and offline sales initiatives.
Digital Marketing & Lead Management
Oversee all lead sources, including OEM websites, dealership sites, third-party lead providers, social media, and digital advertising platforms.
Ensure fast, professional, and consistent follow-up with all internet leads via email, phone, text, and chat.
Optimize online inventory listings, pricing strategies, and digital merchandising to maximize visibility and conversion.
Partner with the marketing department to manage paid search (SEM), SEO, and social media campaigns that drive qualified traffic.
Customer Experience & Sales Process
Implement and refine a seamless online-to-showroom customer experience.
Ensure transparent communication and a high level of customer satisfaction through every stage of the digital sales journey.
Train sales associates on best practices for internet lead handling, CRM usage, and online sales presentations.
Develop scripts, templates, and digital communications standards to maintain consistency and professionalism.
Reporting & Analytics
Analyze lead volume, closing ratios, response times, and ROI from all digital sources.
Create monthly performance reports for dealership leadership, identifying trends and improvement opportunities.
Maintain an understanding of current automotive digital retailing tools, CRM technologies, and evolving market trends.
Qualifications
Experience: 5 years of automotive sales management experience, with at least 2 years in internet or BDC leadership.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
Skills:
Deep understanding of digital retailing, lead management, and CRM systems (e.g., VinSolutions, Elead, DealerSocket).
Strong analytical skills and familiarity with Google Analytics, OEM digital programs, and online advertising platforms.
Excellent communication, leadership, and training abilities.
Proven record of increasing online lead conversions and driving revenue growth.
