ABOUT THE ROLE
Municipal Apparel Company is seeking a strategic and hands-on Finance Director to lead and scale our finance function. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Finance Director will own all aspects of the financial function — including accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial planning & analysis (FP&A). This is a high-impact leadership role that combines day-to-day operational oversight with the strategic finance work needed to support the company's continued growth across our footwear and apparel businesses. The Finance Director will manage the finance team and third party partners, working partner closely with senior leadership to deliver accurate financial reporting, robust forecasting, and the analytical insights that drive better decisions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESAccounting & Financial Operations
• Oversee all aspects of the company's accounting operations, including the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable functions
• Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting in NetSuite
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely delivery of financial statements and management reports
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet schedules prepared by the accounting team and partners
• Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure proper classification of transactions in accordance with GAAP
• Oversee sales tax and other regulatory filings, ensuring compliance across all applicable jurisdictions
Financial Planning & Analysis
• Lead the development and execution of the company's annual budget, long-range plan, and quarterly reforecasts
• Build and maintain financial models that support strategic initiatives, capital allocation decisions, and scenario planning
• Deliver clear, insight-driven variance analyses comparing actuals to budget, forecast, and prior periods
• Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) across sales, margin, inventory, and operating expenses
• Partner with cross-functional leaders — including Sales, Operations, Product, and Marketing — to translate operational plans into financial outcomes
• Prepare board-level reporting materials and presentations in partnership with the CFO
Cash Flow & Treasury
• Own the company's cash flow forecasting process, including a rolling 13-week forecast and longer-horizon liquidity planning
• Monitor daily cash position and proactively identify risks, shortfalls, and opportunities to optimize working capital
• Manage banking relationships, debt covenants, and credit facility reporting in coordination with the CFO
Team Leadership & Development
• Manage, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team
• Define roles, responsibilities, and workflows that scale with the business and create clear accountability
• Recruit, hire, and onboard finance and accounting talent as the function grows
• Foster a high-performing team culture grounded in accuracy, integrity, ownership, and continuous improvement
Systems & Process Improvement
• Serve as a senior functional owner of NetSuite; drive ongoing optimization of the system to support accounting, reporting, and FP&A workflows
• Identify and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across the finance function
• Develop, document, and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and standard operating procedures
• Lead or support ERP enhancements, system integrations, and reporting tool implementations as the business grows
Compliance & Audit Support
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and all applicable financial reporting requirements
• Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors and manage the annual audit process
• Maintain and continuously strengthen the internal controls environment
QUALIFICATIONSRequired
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• 6-8 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least 1-2 years in a leadership role managing a team
• Demonstrated experience owning all aspects of a finance function — accounting, AP, AR, and FP&A
• Hands-on familiarity with NetSuite ERP
• Strong command of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
• Proven ability to lead the monthly close process and produce accurate, timely financial statements
• Track record of building budgets, forecasts, and financial models that drive better business decisions
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Preferred
• CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced credential
• Public accounting experience and/or prior experience in a CFO-track role
• Experience in footwear, apparel, retail, consumer goods, or a similar product-based industry
• Experience scaling a finance and accounting function in a growth-stage company
• Familiarity with inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, and multi-channel revenue recognition
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling
