Position Overview
The Business Development Associate is responsible for expanding Muni Insurance’s brand visibility, generating new commercial insurance opportunities, and cultivating relationships with business owners, community partners, and referral sources.
This person will represent the face of Muni Insurance in the community — attending networking events, visiting local businesses, and building strong professional connections that convert to long-term agency relationships.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prospecting & Relationship Building
- Conduct regular in-person business visits to introduce Muni Insurance, distribute marketing materials, and build connections.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of local businesses (contractors, retail, real estate, hospitality, transportation, etc.).
- Attend and actively participate in networking events, trade shows, chamber of commerce meetings, and community functions.
- Build referral partnerships with mortgage brokers, realtors, accountants, attorneys, and restoration companies.
2. Brand & Event Engagement
- Represent Muni Insurance at local and regional business events to increase brand awareness.
- Assist in planning and hosting agency-sponsored networking events, Lunch & Learns, and community initiatives.
- Coordinate co-branded events with carrier partners and local businesses.
- Support social media and marketing efforts by providing photos, videos, and success stories from the field.
3. Lead Generation & Sales Support
- Identify, qualify, and schedule meetings with potential commercial clients.
- Collaborate with insurance producers and account managers to ensure smooth quoting and onboarding processes.
- Maintain accurate lead data and follow-up activities in CRM or tracking systems.
- Meet weekly goals for visits, appointments, and quotes generated.
4. Reporting & Growth Accountability
- Submit weekly activity and performance reports (visits, leads, events, conversions).
- Track ROI on outreach efforts and assist in preparing monthly business development summaries.
- Continuously assess market opportunities and provide feedback on competitive trends.
Performance Metrics (KPIs)
- Number of business visits and networking events attended per week
- Number of qualified leads and quotes generated
- Premium volume and commission revenue tied to sourced opportunities
- Number of active referral partnerships established
- Measurable increase in local brand visibility (social engagement, community reach)
Qualifications
- Prior experience in sales, marketing, or business development (insurance or financial services preferred).
- Strong networking and communication skills — professional presence and confidence in meeting new people.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and highly organized with the ability to track and manage multiple leads.
- Willingness to travel locally and represent Muni Insurance at community events.
- Basic understanding of commercial insurance (or willingness to learn quickly).
- Proficiency with CRM tools, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram).
