What are the responsibilities and job description for the K-3 Literacy Coach position at Multiple Locations?
Overall Purpose
The K-3 literacy coach will be embedded in the school and work to build teacher capacity in the areas of evidence-based literacy instruction. This work will be aligned with the local literacy plan and the state’s science of reading implementation.

Sharon Elementary, Walker Park Elementary, and Walnut Grove Elementary
Essential Functions
- Provide ongoing job-embedded literacy coaching in classrooms
- Support and coach teachers with evidence-based literacy instruction
- Assist teachers leverage small group and intervention strategies
- Ongoing support with the implementation of the district’s literacy plan
- Coordinate planning with the RESA literacy coaches
- Additional training with school leadership with literacy support
- Serve as the primary district liaison for HB 1193 implementation
- Coach-the-coaches and teachers: co-plan goals, model coaching support plans and cycles, and troubleshooting.
- Support schools with rotating on-site coaching time and development and support.
- Lead cluster-wide PLCs focused on the science of reading, Tier 1 instruction fidelity, and screener data analysis.
- Pursue the Georgia Literacy Coaching Endorsement once available from PSC (target: begin coursework by spring 2027).
- Co-author sections of the district's Unified Literacy Plan
Requirements
Valid Georgia professional certification in the assigned teaching field.
Physical Requirements
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.
Education/Training
Minimum 5 years of successful experience in a K-3 classroom or literacy intervention
Demonstrated expertise in Science of Reading, Structured literacy, reading intervention, data analysis to drive instruction
