What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineer position at MTM Midwest Trailer Mfg?
MTM is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join the engineering team at our 240,000 sq ft semi dump trailer manufacturing facility located in Kewanee, IL. In this role you will contribute to manufacturing process improvement on current product lines, optimizing manufacturing processes on current products and supporting Product Engineering with valuable Design for Manufacturing input. This is an in-house position that reports directly to the Director of Engineering. Compensation and relocation negotiable depending on experience.
Responsibilities
● Utilize knowledge of engineering design principles to generate sound processes that meet operation’s needs in terms of safety, quality, and efficiency
● Review 2D and 3D technical data from Product Engineering to design manufacturing processes in fabrication, welding and assembly that deliver a product that meets the design.
● Develop and execute engineering changes on Manufacturing BOM’s and routings to institutionalize process optimization efforts
● Coordinate, observe, and report on Production Process Validation (PPV) and Production Trial Runs (PTR) when engineering changes impact production.
● Review and develop Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA) on critical parts to stratify and prioritize workload.
● Manage and advise on both in house and sourced tooling design and manufacturing.
● Develop and publish work instructions (Standard Operating Procedures, Job Element Sheets, or Job Instruction Templates – SOP, JES, JIT) as necessary
● Oversee PPAP requirements on in house “Make” items
● Manage Sufficiency planning elements related to process on all make items to improve throughput via standard time reduction.
● Execute time studies to validate designed processes and close the gap between actual standard time performance and standard time as theorized.
● Execute and participate in insourcing activities as directed
Qualifications
We are looking for qualified people with diverse backgrounds and experiences, open minds, and a disciplined work ethic. To join our team in manufacturing quality trailers you must have:
● Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET certified school
● Minimum 3 years’ work experience in heavy equipment manufacturing (Agricultural, Construction, or automative)
● MRP/ERP Experience (Acumatica experience is preferred but not required)
● A strong understanding of the following engineering principles
○ Design for Manufacturing (DFM) or Design for Assembly (DFA)
○ GD&T per ASME standards
○ Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
○ Engineering Change (EC) Process
○ Reviewing and Interpreting 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings
● A fundamental understanding of the following manufacturing process ○ Structural tubing
○ Plate metal fabrication (cutting and forming)
○ Welding jigs and fixtures
○ Large assembly processes
○ CNC Machining
● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Skills
● A strong understanding of Standard Time in manufacturing including time studies
● Experience in implementing automation
● Experience in lean manufacturing preferred
● Aluminum welding and fabrication experience is a plus

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
