Location: Sitka, Alaska 99835
Facility: Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center
Job Type: Full-Time | Days Shift | Alternating Weekends
Shift Timing: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday
Pay Range: $27.81 - $38.62 per hour
Annual Salary Range: $62,000 - $80,000 annually
Sign-On Bonus: $5,000
Relocation Assistance: $10,000 for qualified hires
About the Role:
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician provides technical and customer support to the Department of Pharmacy Services. This position supports pharmacy operations, medication preparation, inventory management, sterile compounding, and patient assistance while ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
Pharmacy Support Duties:
• Retrieve medications from shelves and automated systems under pharmacist supervision
• Count, label, prepare, and deliver medications to patient care areas
• Refill and clean ScriptPro robot and Kirby Lester equipment
• Process medication orders and perform pharmaceutical calculations
• Maintain inventory and stock medications and supplies
• Monitor and document hood pressures and sterile compounding room cleanliness
• Refill emergency room Pyxis machines and complete required documentation
• Handle controlled substances documentation and medication tracking
• Remove expired or recalled medications and complete associated records
• Support quality assurance activities and pharmacy documentation
Customer Service Responsibilities:
• Answer phone calls and assist with prescription refill requests
• Communicate with patients at pharmacy windows and waiting areas
• Triage patient questions and direct clinical concerns to pharmacists
• Conduct patient courtesy follow-up calls regarding prescription pickups
• Process prescription billing reversals for unclaimed medications
• Dispense prepared refill prescriptions under pharmacist supervision
Additional Duties:
• Check and restock crash carts
• Monitor refrigerator temperatures
• Maintain clean, organized pharmacy work areas
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Alaska Pharmacy Technician License required at hire
• Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification required within one year of hire
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• Healthcare or pharmacy customer service experience preferred
Required Competencies & Certifications:
• Clinical Competency Assessment – SEARHC
• High Risk Competency – SEARHC
• Pharmacy Technician License – Alaska State Board of Pharmacy
• Pharmacy Technician National Certification – PTCB
Knowledge & Skills Required:
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, medications, pharmacy law, and generic equivalents
• Sterile compounding experience preferred
• Hazardous drug handling knowledge
• Strong mathematical and dosage calculation skills
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare staff and patients
