Job Summary
The Demand Planning Manager, will lead the development of accurate, data-driven demand forecasts and drive alignment across Sales, Operations, and Finance. The person will translate demand signals into actionable plans that improve service levels, optimize inventory, and support profitable growth.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain SKU-level demand forecasts by location, using historical data, seasonality, and market trends
- Lead the demand planning cycle within the S&OP process, driving alignment to a single consensus plan
- Translate forecasts into actionable plans for purchasing, replenishment, and inventory deployment
- Monitor and improve forecast accuracy and bias, implementing corrective actions to increase reliability
- Partner with Sales to incorporate promotions, pricing changes, and customer-specific demand inputs
- Identify and proactively manage demand risks, including stockouts, excess inventory, and slow-moving SKUs
- Support inventory optimization, including safety stock, reorder points, and SKU rationalization
- Provide insights to warehouse and transportation teams for labor planning and capacity alignment
- Conduct scenario analysis to assess impacts of demand variability, supply disruptions, and business changes
- Deliver regular reporting on demand trends, forecast performance, and business risks
- 5 years of experience in demand planning, supply chain, or inventory management, preferably in a distribution environment
- Strong analytical skills with experience in forecasting tools and data analysis (Excel, SQL, or planning systems)
- Experience leading or participating in S&OP or cross-functional planning processes
- Ability to connect data insights to operational and financial outcomes
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with ERP and demand planning systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Kinaxis, Blue Yonder, or similar)
- Experience with BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau preferred
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in multi-location distribution or branch networks
- Familiarity with inventory optimization concepts such as safety stock modeling and service level trade-offs
- MBA or advanced degree (a plus, not required)
This position may require over 40 hours per week and includes regular physical activity such as:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data analysis, virtual communication
- Minimal lifting (typically up to 10-15 pounds, such as a laptop, documents, or office supplies)
- May require occasional travel (if applicable), which involves walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods
