What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shop - Fitter position at Msd Building Corporation?
Summary
MSD Building Corp. is always looking for experienced Fitters. Fitters are primarily responsible for performing structural fitting assignments safely and maintaining a safe working environment. Fitters are often cross-trained in other areas of the shop, and should be open for development opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform structural fitter assignments as assigned
- Work safe and maintain a safe working environment
- Notify foreman or supervisor of any safety and/or structural issues as warranted
- Lay out, position, align and fit together fabricated structural steel plate according to customer specifications and direction from Foreman/Supervisor
- Move parts into position, manually, by hoist or crane, and align parts, using jacks, etc.
- May be required to remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and/or cutting torch, as well as give directions to the welder to build up low spots or short pieces.
- May, at times, be required to tack weld, as necessary.
- Consults with foreman or supervisor regarding installation or repair problems, sequence of operations, and time required to complete repair and/or installation.
- Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
- Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
- Locate and mark workpiece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
Required experience and Education
- 2 to 3 prior years of experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol tests during employment.
- Must be able to communicate and take directions from Foreman & Supervisor.
- Must have good judgment skills, and a high-level work initiative;
- Must be able to work independently, without direct supervision;
- Must be able to meet strict attendance requirements
