We are seeking an experienced Quality Manager for a growing automotive manufacturing facility in Columbus, Indiana. This is a true hands-on leadership role. The Quality Manager is expected to spend significant time on the production floor working directly with operations and the quality team — not a primarily desk-based position.
About the Role
You will own daily plant quality operations covering production quality, supplier quality, and customer quality. You will report to the Corporate Quality Director and lead the plant quality function with a strong focus on systems ownership, continuous improvement, and people leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 certification and participate in external audits
- Own and maintain the plant calibration program
- Oversee timely review and disposition of nonconforming material and products
- Initiate and manage supplier corrective actions (SCARs)
- Develop and respond to customer corrective actions (8D / root cause analysis)
- Supervise quality inspectors, technicians, specialists, and engineers
- Drive continuous improvement of products, processes, and quality systems
- Ensure strong alignment with production quality systems and customer requirements
Required Qualifications
- Automotive manufacturing experience (strongly preferred)
- Quality supervisory / leadership experience
- ISO experience required; IATF 16949 experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of calibration systems, blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measuring equipment
- Experience managing nonconforming material, SCARs, 8Ds, and root cause analysis
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills
- Ability to work effectively on the production floor
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of quality management experience in an ISO 9001 or IATF 16949-certified environment
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent demonstrated experience)
- Proven success leading plant quality operations and supervising quality teams
