What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chef position at MPR Restaurants?
MPR Restaurants is looking for an experienced, hands-on Chef. We need someone who takes pride in great food, develops a strong team, stays organized during a rush, and understands that consistency matters just as much as creativity.
This is a working leadership position. You’ll guide the kitchen, maintain food quality, manage costs and inventory, help develop specials, and work alongside your team when service gets busy.
What You’ll Do
- Lead daily kitchen operations and set the standard for food quality, presentation, and consistency
- Train, coach, schedule, and motivate the culinary team
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen
- Oversee food preparation, portioning, recipes, and plating standards
- Manage food ordering, inventory, waste, and kitchen costs
- Work with management on seasonal features, specials, promotions, and events
- Ensure proper food-safety and sanitation procedures are followed
- Keep service running smoothly during busy nights, weekends, holidays, and special events
- Address problems quickly, professionally, and without losing your cool
- Communicate clearly with front-of-house leadership and restaurant management
Who We’re Looking For
- Previous experience as an executive chef, sous chef, kitchen manager, or culinary leader
- Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety, inventory, and cost control
- A confident leader who can hold standards without creating unnecessary drama
- Excellent organization and time-management skills
- The ability to train employees and build a dependable kitchen team
- A calm, solutions-focused approach during busy service
- Experience in a high-volume restaurant, banquet, or event environment is a plus
What Makes This Role Different?
You’ll have the opportunity to truly take ownership of the kitchen, shaping specials and events, setting the standard, and building a team you’re proud to lead.
We’re not looking for someone who wants to manage from the sidelines with a clipboard. We’re looking for a hands-on chef who can create structure, uphold high standards, and step in alongside the team when the tickets start flying.
