What are the responsibilities and job description for the Application Engineer - Dyno position at Moveras, LLC?
At Moveras, LLC, we are leading the way in automotive transmission remanufacturing. Known for delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions, we consistently meet the highest standards of performance and reliability. As an innovative leader in a fast-paced industry, we are dedicated to excellence, continuous improvement, and pushing the boundaries of automotive remanufacturing. Our state-of-the-art facility, built on LEAN manufacturing principles, ensures that every transmission we produce is crafted with precision, quality, and efficiency.
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Dyno Application Engineer to develop, configure, and support advanced control systems for transmission and powertrain dynamometer test environments. This role bridges the gap between mechanical systems, automation, and data acquisition — ensuring high-fidelity test execution, repeatability, and data integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy control strategies for dynamometer-based test systems (transmissions, powertrains, components).
- Configure and tune test sequences, load profiles, and safety interlocks using real-time control platforms (NI TestStand, LabVIEW, etc.).
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and instrumentation into test cell control systems (torque, speed, temperature, pressure, flow).
- Set up, tune, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to control motor speed, torque, and direction in dynamometer applications.
- Calibrate and validate control loops (e.g., PID) for stability, responsiveness, and accuracy under dynamic load.
- Collaborate with test engineers, software teams, and lab technicians to optimize test execution.
- Troubleshoot system-level issues related to electrical signals, communication interfaces (CAN, KART,SPI,I2C), or test software.
- Build and maintain accurate documentation, including control schematics, software configurations, and system validation records.
- Provide training and support to lab personnel and technicians on system use and best practices.
- Design and build various wiring harnesses to connect device under test(DUT) to dyno.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
- 3 years of experience with control systems in a test lab or automation setting.
- Proficient in setup and tuning of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for motor and load control.
- Strong understanding of closed-loop control theory, signal conditioning, filtering techniques, and real-time data acquisition.
- Familiarity with sensors, DAQ systems, safety relays, and industrial wiring standards.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, data sheets, wiring diagrams, and interface control documents. Familiarity with PLCs and industrial automation networks.
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical systems, such as gear trains, hydraulics, or rotating machinery.
- Eager to take on new challenges with a positive, team-first attitude and a willingness to develop new skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automatic transmission tests and dynamometers.
- Knowledge of vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN).
- Root-cause analysis and troubleshooting of mechatronic systems under load.
- Proficiency in control software tools (e.g., LabVIEW, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or structured text).
- Mirco processor programming (Arduino, C,C , Embedded C)
- Experience with Field Programable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) selection & programming.
