- Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center is an 820,000-square-foot facility that offers the latest medical programs, cutting-edge technology, and patient-focused care that includes 365 beds, 1,200 employees, and a 27-bed Emergency Room/Fast Track Unit.
Responsibilities
- The Scheduler is responsible for scheduling designated Primary Care, Specialty/Sub-specialty, Surgical, and Radiology outpatient services with the hospital system. Accurately performs the scheduling function in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Acts as a professional liaison for staff, other hospital personnel, medical staff, and physicians' offices.
- Accept calls from and work with physicians’ offices to schedule surgical, endoscopy, cardiac catheterization, interventional radiology, and pain management procedures in the Electronic Record Scheduling System.
- Ensure receipt of all pertinent information related to the booking, including insurance information, special requests, accurate booking slips, and any other needed documentation.
- Fax booking information to Pre- admission testing.
- Informs OR, Materials Management, and Central Sterile Processing of special instrument and supply requests.
- Work daily with peers, leadership, anesthesia, and physicians’ offices to compress the schedule for efficiencies.
- Communicates with affected departments, last-minute add-ons, and cancellations to ensure adequate resources are available.
- Schedules office and hospital-based medical procedures for patients with appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing the appropriate scheduling code.
- Schedule surgical procedures, including pre-admission testing, pre-op clearances, order MRI, CT, and lab testing.
- Ensure all pertinent patient information is complete and forwarded to the appropriate departments for surgical and diagnostic procedures.
- Enter notes/special instructions needed for scheduling in the electronic medical record.
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma.
- 1 year of prior experience in appointment scheduling, patient access, or billing.
- Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) Certification required within 6 months of hire
- Familiar with medical terminology.
- Knowledge of EMR.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Grammar, spelling, and punctuation).
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette.
- Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Relevant health care experience.
- Inbound high-volume call center experience
Rate of pay is determined based on experience and education, and may include other pay components such as differentials and call pay based on role.
