JOB DESCRIPTION:
Mountain Views Supervisory Union seeks a full-time Early Childhood Special Educator to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team for the 2026-2027 school year. Our prekindergarten programs, in partnership with families and the community, provide high-quality opportunities and environments that support each child’s social and emotional well-being.

Responsibilities include providing services to young children in inclusive classroom environments, small groups, and 1:1; case management of special needs prekindergartners; and working with families to transition their children into the public school setting. The early childhood team works collaboratively and meets together regularly. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the Vermont Early Learning Standards, Teaching Strategies Gold assessment, and VT Special Education Regulations. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as case manager for special education students and provide direct services as needed. Write high-quality IEPs and evaluation reports. Adhere to timelines and coordinate related services.
  • Integrate current best practices, research, and special education laws into the education of students with disabilities to assure compliance with state and federal laws and provide the most effective educational program for assigned students.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate, complete, timely, effective, and confidential student records and reports as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of assigned students, including the intellectual, social, and emotional characteristics of the age group, students' varied approaches to learning, student skills and knowledge, student interests and cultural heritage, economic and cultural influences, and students' family, school, and community context.
  • Assist in collecting data for service plans, time study documentation, child count, and other studies as required by special services, business office, and/or the AOE.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers who have students with specific needs in their classrooms to help them design/modify classroom services (including activities, instructional groupings, lesson plans, materials, assessments, teaching strategies, etc).
  • Identify and implement appropriate assistive technology devices and other adaptive or augmentative systems that will enhance student communication and accessibility. Help students develop communication skills through voice/AAC/sign language,
  • Help students who have self-care or physical needs with the goal of increasing their independent living skills.
  • Model a variety of instructional methods (such as differentiated instruction) and provide materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives in the IEP, including behavioral and motivational techniques.
  • Administer and/or coordinate thorough assessments, including language, behavior, visual motor, gross and fine motor, and cognitive skills, using various techniques, including standardized tests, rubrics, checklists, curriculum-based measures, developmental scales, observations, behavior objectives, etc. Interprets findings to determine program eligibility accurately and to assess student progress.
  • Research, coordinate, and effectively utilize available school and community resources and outside agencies to ensure the proper delivery of students' IEP.
  • Plan, develop, monitor and/or deliver extended school year programs for identified students to ensure an effective educational program.
  • Facilitate effective meetings. Maintain accurate and complete records within timelines established by federal and state regulations and district policies.
  • Provide a safe learning environment for all students. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Create and maintain an environment of respect and rapport.
  • Coordinate services and assure productive, effective, and efficient use of assigned paraprofessionals.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor behavior management plans and crisis prevention/intervention plans for assigned students as necessary.
  • Effectively provides academic instruction, social skills training, and other direct services to assigned students individually and in small/large groups.
  • Communicates and collaborate effectively with parents to keep them informed and engage them to help meet the student's educational needs.
  • Work effectively, cooperatively, and respectfully with supervisors and colleagues. Implement strategies such as collaborative teaming, conflict resolution, and mediation strategies to facilitate team decisions around student programs.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and advocate for students.
  • Assist the school principals and/or Director of Student Support Services in planning and evaluating program effectiveness and identifying program needs.
  • Actively participate in school events, workshops, in-service meetings, building-level staff meetings, district meetings, and other school and district committees/projects.

Salary : $49,539 - $98,459
