We are seeking a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to support, secure, and evolve our Azure cloud environment. This role is hands-on and strategic, requiring deep Azure infrastructure and security expertise, strong collaboration with application teams, and the ability to evaluate an existing tenant and design and implement improvements.
About the Role
This is not a pure DevOps role—the ideal candidate brings strong Azure engineering and security experience while being capable of supporting Azure DevOps from an infrastructure perspective.
Location: Plano, TX
6-Month Contract-to-Hire.
Term: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Type: W-2 Contract Only – C2C, third-party, or sponsorship arrangements are not supported at this time.
Responsibilities
Azure Architecture & Engineering
- Evaluate the existing Azure tenant and provide recommendations to improve security, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Design, implement, and maintain Azure infrastructure following approved architectures, standards, and best practices.
- Manage the ongoing operation of Azure cloud services, ensuring logging, monitoring, and alerting are properly configured for security and compliance.
- Maintain comprehensive lifecycle, configuration, and security management of Azure resources and servers.
Networking & Security
- Evaluate and improve Azure networking configurations including:
- Azure Firewalls
- Web Application Gateways (WAF)
- Private Endpoints / Private Links
- Overall network architecture and traffic flow
- Assess and enhance cloud security posture using Microsoft Defender for Cloud.
- Design, implement, and manage Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) including:
- IAM and PIM configurations
- Conditional Access policies
- MFA strategies
- SSO integrations
- Ensure adherence to Azure security principles and compliance requirements.
Automation, IaC & DevOps Support
- Use automation, configuration management, and deployment tools to ensure standardization and repeatability.
- Support and maintain Azure DevOps from an infrastructure perspective:
- Create, update, and maintain pipelines
- Implement backup and recovery strategies
- Support AppDev teams with CI/CD and infrastructure needs
- Recommend and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD strategies to enable faster, more secure deployments.
Disaster Recovery & Operational Readiness
- Design and document a technical Disaster Recovery (DR) runbook for DR testing and real-world scenarios.
- Participate in operational processes including on-call rotations, incident response, and post-incident reviews.
Collaboration & Enablement
- Act as the first point of contact for application and business owners regarding cloud services.
- Serve as a bridge between application teams, cloud engineers, and architects.
- Provide guidance, troubleshooting, and training to other engineers as needed.
- Participate in daily standups, peer reviews, design sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Foster adoption of cloud best practices across the organization.
Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience as an Azure Cloud Engineer or similar senior role
Strong expertise in:
- Azure networking and security
- Microsoft Entra ID (IAM, PIM, Conditional Access, MFA)
- Microsoft Defender for Cloud
- Azure DevOps (infrastructure-focused)
- Experience designing and implementing secure, scalable Azure environments
- Strong PowerShell scripting skills
- Experience configuring and managing SSO integrations
- Proven ability to evaluate existing environments and successfully implement improvements
Required Skills
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, ARM, Terraform)
- Azure certifications (AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-500, or similar)
- Experience supporting regulated or compliance-driven environments
