One of the largest power and utilities companies in the state is searching for an experienced Energy Management Systems (EMS) Applications Engineer to join their high-impact grid solutions team. In this essential role, you will take ownership of the design, development, enhancement, and support of cutting-edge real-time power systems and energy market applications to directly impact the stability and reliability of the electric grid. This exciting opportunity to drive innovation in energy management begins as a 2-year W2 contract offering a flexible, hybrid schedule in Taylor, TX, competitive benefits, and the strong potential for conversion to permanent employment.


Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, test, and validate enhancements to Energy Management Systems applications, including real-time grid modeling, forecasting, and operator training solutions.
  • Provide expert troubleshooting, maintenance, and support for EMS and market management platforms, including participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure smooth application setup, integration, and testing for market participants.
  • Lead and participate in disaster recovery exercises, site failovers, and business continuity initiatives for critical grid systems.
  • Regularly perform model load testing and real-time data updates in line with established procedures.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor on projects impacting EMS/OTS applications and environments.
  • Contribute to the development of new tools, processes, and procedures that drive system reliability and department efficiency.
  • Take on a mentorship role, providing guidance, oversight, and training to junior engineers and analysts.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and database teams to resolve complex system/application interactions and deliver robust solutions.


Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related engineering experience within Energy Management or real-time grid/market systems.
  • Strong expertise with EMS applications such as Power Flow, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, Load Frequency Control, OTS, and dynamic stability analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with EMMS production support, including troubleshooting, maintenance, disaster recovery drills, and issue remediation.
  • Deep knowledge of application and interface design, client/server and web-based platforms, as well as real-time system/database upgrades and patching procedures.
  • Proficiency in power system analysis tools, database management, and advanced spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to work independently on complex assignments requiring in-depth evaluation, as well as collaboratively in multifunctional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills; a proactive approach to continuous improvement; and proven success in mentoring others.
