RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Nursing Academic Counseling Coordinator (ACC) primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, designing and overseeing a comprehensive academic counseling program, admission application process, and a retention system to support nursing students’ progression through existing and proposed health sciences curricula. The ACC plays a pivotal role in student recruitment, academic counseling, admission, and the creation and maintenance of student records. Additionally, the ACC works with faculty and staff to promote student success and retention, collects and analyzes admission and retention data, collects and analyzes program retention and attrition data, recommends changes in recruitment and retention strategies, manages student health and academic records, develops and maintains program materials (curriculum maps, advising materials, etc.), coordinates recruitment and outreach efforts for the nursing programs, and supervises student workers for the department. The ACC must exhibit excellent communication skills, independent judgment, problem solving, and critical thinking skills without the day-to-day oversight of the supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Proficiency in computer applications, including student information systems. Valid driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in a relevant field. Experience in student services, counseling, or a related area.

The ACC reports to the Chair of the Department of Nursing. This position interacts with Nursing Program Coordinators, faculty, staff, students, and various internal and external constituencies.
