Job Summary
Under the direction of the radiologist and supervision of the department manager performs CAT SCAN and radiologic and fluoro procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis. Educates patients by describing and explaining the procedure as it relates to them. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.
Essential Functions
- Patient and Room Preparation: This task includes (a) Proper Identification of Patient (b) Educating the patient by describing and explaining the procedure as it relates specfically to the patient (c) entering patient data into RIS and other appropriate computer systems as necessary (d) Placing the patient on the scan table in the correct position for the scan to be performed ( e) Choosing the appropriate Protocol based on the body part to be examined. (f) Obtain appropriate scout image for procedure.
- Obtain cross sectional images: This task includes the proper setting of protocols and sequences to obtain high quality images for diagnosis by the radiologist.
- Direct involvement during procedures: Thistask involves. a) Assisting the radiologist during biopsy procedures as needed. (b) Constant attention to the progression of the procedure while in the control room, monitoring progression of biopsy procedure (c) Assist the anesthesiologist in the organization of equipment. (d) Involved with operating MEDRAD injector when necessary.
- Photographing and processing of images: This task includes photographing and labeling scan images, processing and displaying final images on viewing machines for radilogist interpretation.
- Maintain all necessary records of images slices, injections, etc.
- Observe all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety for patients and staff.
- Train other associates and students in CAT Scan procedures.
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.
- Promotes a culture of safety adhering to the national patient goals.
- Maintains radiation safety for patients and staff. Perform other related assigned tasks.
Qualifications
- High School Required
- 1-3 years Required
- Registered Radiologic Technologist - Injection Required
- ARRT Required
- Satisfactory completion of a formal training program in radiologic technology. Required
