POSITION SUMMARY:
The Junior Water Polo Coach is an entry-level coaching position designed for teens or young adults interested in coaching and leadership development. This role supports the coaching staff while learning the fundamentals of coaching, instruction, and program leadership within the YMCA of Montclair’s Water Polo program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist coaches with drills, warm-ups, and basic skill instruction.
- Help supervise participants and promote positive behavior.
- Support equipment setup and breakdown.
- Serve as a role model for younger participants.
- Learn and reinforce YMCA values, safety procedures, and program expectations.
- Assist with attendance and basic administrative tasks as assigned.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
- Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 18
- Knowledge of water polo fundamentals, gameplay strategy, and rules.
- Prior experience playing or coaching water polo preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to motivate and support youth participants.
- CPR/AED & First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Lifeguard certification preferred but not required.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and promote an inclusive team environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to pass lifeguard skills assessment and water test.
- Ability to swim and safely navigate the pool deck and aquatic environment.
- Capable of demonstrating water polo skills when needed.
- Must be able to lift and pull 50 pounds.
- Indoor pool facility with warm and humid conditions.
- Practice and events may require evening or weekend availability.

HOURLY PAY RATE: $16.13–$18.00
SCHEDULE: Monday–Wednesday and Sundays; weekends as needed.
