POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Water Polo Coach supports the Head Coach in delivering high-quality, safe, and engaging water polo practices and events. This role focuses on hands-on instruction, player development, and supervision, helping ensure a positive team experience that aligns with the YMCA of Montclair’s mission and values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in planning and leading water polo practices and skill-based drills.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to support player development.
- Help supervise participants during practices, scrimmages, and events.
- Reinforce water polo fundamentals, rules, and sportsmanship.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment and pool space.
- Support the Head Coach during games, clinics, and special events.
- Communicate observations and participants need the Head Coach.
- Uphold YMCA of Montclair safety standards, policies, and procedures.
- Serve as a positive role model reflecting YMCA values.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
- Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 18
- Knowledge of water polo fundamentals, gameplay strategy, and rules.
- Prior experience playing or coaching water polo preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to motivate and support youth participants.
- CPR/AED & First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Lifeguard certification preferred but not required.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and promote an inclusive team environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to pass lifeguard skills assessment and water test.
- Ability to swim and safely navigate the pool deck and aquatic environment.
- Capable of demonstrating water polo skills when needed.
- Must be able to lift and pull 50 pounds.
- Indoor pool facility with warm and humid conditions.
- Practice and events may require evening or weekend availability.

HOURLY PAY RATE: $18.00–$21.00
SCHEDULE: Monday–Wednesday and Sundays; weekends as needed.
