Position Summary:
The Controls and Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining control systems and instrumentation used in aluminum extrusion processes. This role ensures optimal performance, reliability, and safety of automated systems, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, VFD’s and control modules used throughout the plant.
Key Responsibilities:
• Electrical and automation controls installation, troubleshooting, support and predictive, preventive and emergency maintenance
• Lead control system upgrades, new installations, and integration projects across plant operations
• Calibrate, install, and maintain instrumentation such as temperature sensors, pressure transducers, flow meters, and load cells.
• Collaborate with maintenance technicians and production teams to optimize equipment performance and reduce downtime.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues with automation equipment, sensors, drives, and networked devices.
• Ensure all control systems comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate documentation of control logic, wiring diagrams, and system configurations.
• Provide technical support during equipment commissioning, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
Qualifications:
• Previous experience with industrial controls and automation.
• Foundational knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text) and HMI systems.
• Experience with electrical power and controls to include 24vdc and 120-480vac systems.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherNet/IP, ProfiNet) and data acquisition systems.
• Familiarity with industrial automation, sensors, and control systems.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
Preferred Skills:
• Exposure to Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other industrial control platforms.
• Basic understanding of process control in metal forming or extrusion operations preferred.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or TPM principles.
