Finishing Cutter Operator – Momentara

Job Summary
The Finishing Cutter Operator is responsible for the safe, precise, and efficient setup and operation of commercial guillotine cutting equipment. This role trims printed sheets and raw stock to exact specifications while maintaining high accuracy, quality, and productivity. The operator plays a vital role in supporting downstream production areas, including Pressroom, Bindery, and Grand Format.
Key ResponsibilitiesCutter Operation & Setup
- Set up, operate, and maintain guillotine cutters to trim printed materials and raw stock per job specifications.
- Read and interpret job tickets, layouts, and cut instructions for accuracy and customer requirements.
- Program digital cutter settings to achieve precise, repeatable cuts.
- Inspect first pulls using calipers, micrometers, rulers, and other measuring tools and adjust as needed.
Materials Handling
- Cut a wide range of substrates including coated/uncoated papers, cover stock, labels, and specialty materials.
- Perform proper jogging, stacking, palletizing, and waste removal.
- Prepare materials for downstream finishing, bindery, or packaging processes.
Quality & Safety
- Ensure all cuts meet alignment, accuracy, and quality standards.
- Follow all equipment safety protocols, including blade handling and machine guarding.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Coordinate with Pressroom, Bindery, Grand Format, and Production teams to meet deadlines.
- Work with Maintenance on routine upkeep and minor repairs.
- Maintain accurate logs, cutter programs, and production documentation.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years operating commercial guillotine cutters.
- Experience with cutter brands such as Polar, Challenge, Wohlenberg, or similar.
- Strong math, measurement, and layout-reading skills.
- Mechanical aptitude for adjustments and machine setup.
- High attention to detail and quality control.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or alternative shifts as needed.
Preferred
- Experience in commercial print, finishing, or packaging.
- Knowledge of paper grain, weight, and cutting behavior.
- Familiarity with digital cutter software (e.g., Polar).
Work Environment
- Manufacturing production floor with exposure to cutting machinery, paper dust, and noise.
- PPE required (safety glasses, ear protection, gloves).
- Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
