Role:

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Technician – Spraying Specialist

Focus: Application of OMRI certified herbicides and other control measures in compliance with Company IPM principles, while minimizing environmental impact.

Job Overview

The Outdoor IPM Spraying Technician is responsible for applying targeted herbicide treatments to manage pest populations in agricultural, horticultural, or commercial settings. This role integrates chemical control with biological, mechanical, and cultural methods to achieve effective pest management while adhering to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspection & Scouting: Inspect crops, greenhouses, fields, and facilities for signs of pests, diseases, and beneficial insects; record findings and trends
• Treatment Planning: Executed Company provided IPM action plans, determining when and where spraying is necessary
• Spraying Operations: Operate sprayers, foggers, or other application equipment to apply fungicides and herbicides in a safe, effective, and compliant manner. Mix approved products in accordance with specific dilution rates per IPM SOPs.
• Application Methods: Use targeted spraying techniques to minimize drift and off target effects.
• Biological Controls: Coordinate with the growing or pest management team to release beneficial insects or other biological controls, as necessary.
• Equipment Maintenance: Ensure sprayers and related equipment are in good working order and calibrated for accuracy
• Compliance & Safety: Follow all application regulations, safety protocols, and PPE requirements; maintain chemical inventory and documentation
• Reporting: Document spraying activities, pest status, and crop health; communicate findings to supervisors and clients
• Prevention Education: Advise growers or clients on preventative measures to reduce pest pressure
  

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; horticultural, agricultural, or pest management background preferred
• Experience: 1–2 years in horticulture, agriculture, or pest control; pesticide applicator certification required and must be current. The Company will provide resources to obtain if not in hand already.
• Knowledge: Understanding of pest biology, crop health, irrigation systems, and IPM principles preferred.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with sprayers, monitoring tools (e.g., sticky cards), and record-keeping systems
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, lift, and operate equipment; work in varied weather conditions
• Soft Skills: Attention to detail, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork
  

Work Environment

• Outdoor or greenhouse-based, with exposure to biologicals, weather, and varying work hours (including weekends/holidays)
• Requires adherence to strict safety and environmental standards. Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of sitting and standing over long periods of time.
• Working early and late hours.
• Regular walking, standing, and occasional bending or kneeling while in operational areas.
• Ability to lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.

Salary Range:

This position will have a starting hourly range of $25 hr dependent on experience.
