Position: Home Care Attendant- Personal Care Attendant (PCA)
Shifts Available:
Full-Time, 32-40 hours per week, flexible hours
Part-Time, M-F, no HOL/Weekends, up to 25 hours per week

RESPONSIBLE TO
Director of Missouri Slope at Home
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION
The primary purpose of this position is to provide individual services for clients and their homes. These services may include, but are not limited to, personal care, companionship, transportation, preventative and routine home maintenance, housekeeping, meal delivery, safety checks, and any other services the program provides for aging adults in their homes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Possess excellent verbal, writing, and organization skills and can effectively work and communicate with a wide range of individuals from all socio-economic groups, including geriatric persons, people with special needs, and those in need of memory care support
- Able to work with minimal supervision and effectively manage workflow. Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Able to perform all personal care duties, as well as light housekeeping, simple cooking, and basic home maintenance. Able to communicate through the use of technology.
- Proficient with email, able to maintain required records on the database, and utilize training software.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Service Providing
- Provide all contracted services for clients. These include, but are not limited to, health and wellness checks, monthly home maintenance, transportation, companionship, and other elected services such as personal care, housekeeping, emergency response services, and meals.
Monthly Home Safety/Maintenance Tasks
- Provide predetermined maintenance in a timely and cost-effective manner. Ensures that the client has the appropriate supplies and equipment as needed. Responsible for completing the monthly task outlined within the client’s individual service contract.
Safety calls/checks
- Ensure each client is contacted at their predetermined time. Identify any “out of the ordinary” indicators, that all is well or not. Respond appropriately in the event something is off.
Companion Services
- Provide socialization to clients who live alone on a predetermined schedule.
Meals
- Prepare meals within the client home or prepared meals from Missouri Slope.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Personal Care:
- Provide personal care/activities of daily living (ADLs) for clients who elect this Service, (including dressing, bathing assistance, Compression stocking application, shaving
Housekeeping/Homemaker Service:
- Provide housekeeping home maker service (housework, laundry, garbage removal, vacuuming, dusting… etc.) for clients who elect this service. Ensures that the client has the appropriate products available to clean correctly.
Transportation:
- Transport client either in personal vehicle or agency vehicle, for non-medical tasks such as shopping or errands.
Personal Emergency Response System:
- If ERS is available, ensure the system is in working order and the client has the pendant/watch on their person before leaving each shift.
Documentation
- Complete all documentation necessary for client services, shift check-in/check-out, training, and any other required paperwork by Missouri Slope at Home, utilizing Aanie/smart care app or hard copy forms
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- PCA will frequently be required to stand and use all motor functions to tend to the Client's needs. This includes the ability to reach, stoop, kneel, bend, squat, crouch, or crawl, and speak the English language. The PCA will be required to perform physical work, including lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, the ability to stand for extended periods, climb a ladder, be comfortable with short heights, push, pull, lift, walk, and bend. Must be comfortable driving a client in a personal or company-owned vehicle.
WORK CONDITIONS
- The PCA will execute duties in the home settings (of the contracted client). Works will take place indoors, but on occasion outdoors. Must be able to travel to clients’ homes and sometimes accompany/drive clients outside the house.
- The PCA will work very near clients, often hands-on or within inches of clients, which requires PPE, masks, protective or other safety attire, such as gloves. There will be some exposure to some hazardous materials, including bloodborne pathogens or household chemicals, which require knowledge of basic chemical safety/infection prevention. Work could involve exposure to plants, animals, dust, and other allergens within the environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have at a minimum a high school diploma or GED.
- Experience providing direct care assistance to older adults.
- Must be able to meet competency standards for QSP criteria in North Dakota (training provided by Missouri Slope).
- Must possess an active, valid driver’s license and auto Insurance.
- Incumbents of this position may be eligible to participate in a CNA class to become certified through Missouri Slope (this is a voluntary opportunity and is not a requirement of the position).
- Successfully pass a drug test, background check, including criminal history, certification registries, and employment history
- Completion of training as required by Missouri Slope
