Advises county commissioners and department staff on engagement and outreach strategy and executes those strategies. Develops and executes rural outreach events and opportunities, which includes budget preparation and coordination with community councils and partner organizations. Coordinates and executes large-scale events involving the public. Assists with event logistics, prepares and manages event budgets. Establishes and maintains relationships with community organizations and community councils to facilitate targeted communication of county news and updates. Researches and collaborates with governmental partners on strategies to communicate to hard-to-reach members of the public. Attends and regularly presents at monthly All Community Council meetings. Leverages communications technologies, including content management systems, the County’s engagement website, social media platforms and publication software to provide information and produce content to enhance two-way communication between county employees and residents. Assists staff in other departments with leveraging these technologies. Assists communications team in developing communications strategy, public messaging and content and helps lead community outreach for County operations and programs. Assists with County’s communication efforts during the Montana Legislature. Addresses constituent questions and feedback received online, by email, phone and social media, which often includes complex inquiries from the public, government officials and others that require interpretation of County or departmental policies, state law and knowledge of County operations and services. Provides information to County departments and facilitates interdepartmental communication on public inquiries. Facilitates internal communication, through production of employee newsletter and a position on the employee council and other methods, to help build a positive, community-oriented work environment. Assists leadership and staff with day-to-day communications needs, including writing and proofing social media posts, letters, and other content; editing presentations; photographing events to provide visual content; and designing graphics. Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor’s degree. Degrees best suited for this position include communications, journalism, political science and public relations.
- Requires broad experience in technology platforms.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least one year of experience working in communications, outreach and/or event planning. Physical/Environmental DemandsThe work is commonly performed in an office setting with a considerable amount of time using a computer keyboard. May require occasional light lifting (up to 20 pounds). Requires attendance at meetings outside the workplace; requires occasional attendance at meetings or events outside normal business hours.
