Position Summary:
MissionCIT is seeking a detail-oriented HR Generalist to professionalize and standardize our human resources operations. The primary objective of this role is to ensure strict compliance with Connecticut labor laws, accurate worker classification, and the robust utilization of QuickBooks Payroll Elite for onboarding and records management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Worker Classification & Onboarding (40%)
- Conduct initial assessments for all incoming talent to determine proper classification (W2 Employee vs. 1099 Independent Contractor) based on behavioral and financial control tests.
- Manage the digital onboarding process within QuickBooks Payroll Elite, ensuring all new hires complete required documentation prior to their start date.
- Administer the E-Verify process for all new employees to ensure federal employment eligibility compliance.
- Audit and maintain I-9 forms to ensure perfect completion and proper record retention.
2. Process Standardization & Systems (30%)
- Serve as the administrator for the HR functions within QuickBooks Payroll Elite.
- Build and enforce a standard operating procedure (SOP) for data entry to ensure payroll accuracy.
- Monitor the "HR Support Center" within QuickBooks to keep policies current.
- Ensure all payroll forms (W-4, CT-W4, Direct Deposit) are fully executed and archived correctly.
3. Connecticut Compliance (30%)
- Ensure MissionCIT remains compliant with all CT-specific mandates, including CT Paid Sick Leave and CT Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) deductions.
- Maintain personnel files in accordance with CT Department of Labor standards.
- Assist management with standardizing termination procedures and documentation.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 5 years of HR experience, with specific experience in an operational or generalist role.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with QuickBooks Online Payroll is required. Experience with the "Elite" tier features is a strong plus.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Deep understanding of IRS guidelines regarding Independent Contractor vs. Employee classification.
- Certification: E-Verify administrator certification (or ability to become certified immediately).
Success Metrics:
- 100% I-9 and E-Verify compliance for all active employees.
- Zero missing documents for new hires before first payroll run.
- Accurate classification of all new 1099 contractors.
