Assistant Controller - Boutique Private Equity

Boutique Middle Market Private Equity Fund in NYC that is looking to hire Assistant Controller!

The role is brand new, reports to the CFO, and will provide exposure across finance, accounting, and operations. It will oversee the firm’s fund finance function, including fund accounting, financial reporting, and operational execution across current funds, future funds, and SPVs. This role is highly cross-functional, partnering with the investment team, investor relations, legal, tax, and third-party service providers.

Responsibilities:

• Operate with significant autonomy, owning the fund accounting and reporting function

• Review capital calls, distributions, and treasury controls across funds, SPVs, and the management company

• Own management fee calculations, carried interest, and waterfall mechanics, plus exposure to complex structures like co-investments and SPVs

• Strategic partnership with the CFO — collaborate directly on fund structuring, LPA interpretation, and tax/audit matters

• Design and scale accounting, reporting, and control infrastructure to support future fund launches and growth

• Work closely with investor relations, auditors, tax advisors, and fund administrators, with a seat at the table on investor reporting and DDQs

• This is a build-and-own mandate for a fund accounting leader ready to shape the function as the firm scales
