Department of Health and Exercise Science / Pre‑Athletic Training Track
Position Summary
Misericordia University invites applications for Adjunct Faculty to support our Pre‑Athletic Training curriculum on a part‑time, semester‑by‑semester basis. This is an excellent opportunity for certified athletic trainers and related professionals to share their clinical expertise with undergraduate students preparing for entry into professional athletic training programs.
Responsibilities
Adjunct faculty may be assigned lecture and/or lab courses in areas such as:
- Introduction to Athletic Training and Sports Medicine
- Evaluation and Assessment of Athletic Injuries (upper and lower extremity)
- Therapeutic Modalities
- Therapeutic Exercise and Rehabilitation
- Emergency Care and First Aid in Sport
- Taping, Bracing, and Protective Equipment
- Clinical Skills / Pre‑AT Practicum seminars
Additional responsibilities include:
- Preparing syllabi, laboratory experiences, and assessment tools aligned with program outcomes and CAATE‑aligned pre‑professional expectations
- Providing demonstration and supervision of psychomotor skills in a lab/clinical classroom setting
- Emphasizing evidence‑based practice, documentation, and professional standards of care
- Providing timely feedback and mentoring to students exploring athletic training as a career
- Collaborating with program faculty to ensure alignment between didactic coursework and clinical expectations
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a closely related field
- Current certification as a BOC‑certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)
- Eligible for, or holding, appropriate state licensure for athletic training practice (if applicable)
- Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical experience as an athletic trainer with physically active populations
- Strong communication skills and commitment to student‑centered education
Preferred Qualifications
- Collegiate or professional athletics clinical experience
- Prior experience teaching, precepting, or supervising athletic training students or interns
- Familiarity with CAATE standards and professional preparation pathways
- Experience with simulation, skills check‑offs, and competency‑based assessment
- Experience with learning management systems and basic instructional technology
