Department of Health and Exercise Science / Pre‑Doctor of Physical Therapy Track
Position Summary
Misericordia University seeks qualified Adjunct Faculty to teach undergraduate courses that support the Pre‑Doctor of Physical Therapy pathway. We invite applications from physical therapists and related professionals who are passionate about preparing students for graduate‑level DPT education and practice.
Responsibilities
Adjunct faculty may be assigned lecture and/or lab courses in areas such as:
- Functional Anatomy and Kinesiology
- Pathophysiology for Rehabilitation
- Introduction to Physical Therapy and Health Care Systems
- Biomechanics and Movement Analysis
- Therapeutic Exercise Principles
- Neuroscience / Motor Control foundations (introductory level)
- Evidence‑Based Practice / Introduction to Clinical Research
Additional responsibilities include:
- Designing and delivering courses that build foundational knowledge and clinical reasoning expected for DPT admission
- Facilitating lab‑based activities such as goniometry, manual muscle testing, posture and gait analysis, and basic therapeutic exercise
- Integrating professional behaviors, ethics, and interprofessional perspectives into classroom discussions
- Providing timely, constructive feedback on student performance
- Maintaining accurate course records and participating in basic departmental communication as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or master’s degree in Physical Therapy;
- OR a master’s in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field with significant experience teaching pre‑PT content
- Current or eligible physical therapy license (preferred for PT‑trained applicants)
- Strong foundation in human anatomy, kinesiology, and rehabilitation principles
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex clinical concepts to undergraduate learners
- Commitment to the mission and values of Misericordia University
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the collegiate level (undergraduate or DPT programs)
- Active clinical practice in orthopedics, sports, neurology, or related areas
- Experience mentoring pre‑PT or DPT students in clinical or academic settings
- Familiarity with CAPTE expectations and pre‑professional preparation for DPT programs
- Experience with learning management systems and technology‑enhanced teaching
