ND EHDI Navigator Program
Position Summary: The North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities @ MSU is hiring two individuals to serve as Family Navigators for the North Dakota Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (ND EHDI) Navigator Program. NDCPD has received new funding from the Oberkotter Foundation to enhance and expand the established ND EHDI program, supporting timely access to newborn hearing healthcare through the implementation of a navigator model. Family Navigators will work directly with families to help achieve and accelerate key benchmarks in early hearing detection, identification, and intervention.
Position Responsibilities: Individuals hired for these positions should be “skilled professionals” capable of providing family-centered support, reducing barriers to care, and helping families navigate the complex Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) system. While lived experience is not required, it is preferred. The individual(s) hired for this position will be expected to develop a basic knowledge of hearing loss, newborn hearing screening, the importance of early hearing detection, identification, and intervention, early intervention (EI) services, risk factors predisposing families to access challenges, and local support resources (i.e., providers and/or programs). The focus of these positions is on data monitoring and analysis, technical assistance, resource connection, and emotional support, which can be provided by professionals (like social workers or educators) or experienced parent-mentors. Specific duties are listed below:
- Utilize the ND EHDI Information System OZ eSP to: 1) Monitor screening, diagnostic, and early intervention data, 2) Export data for further analysis to identify discrepancies, attainment of 1-3-6 benchmarks, reporting activities, and 3) perform data entry tasks.
- Conduct follow-up by contacting families, service providers i.e. hospital staff, audiologists, and early intervention staff, and family support organizations.
Provide technical assistance to ND EHDI information system users.
Other miscellaneous duties, depending on project assignments, are listed below:
- Become knowledgeable about NDCPD and carry out the assigned project goals and activities.
- Develop/disseminate material (instructional materials, articles, brochures, presentations, technical reports).
- Provide technical assistance and/or consultation to individuals, agencies, and consumers.
- Provide training and present at meetings and conferences.
- Perform research and data analysis that impact individuals with disabilities.
- Negotiate agreements following NDCPD and MSU guidelines.
- Participate in agency, statewide, and national planning/policy groups to address unmet needs and emerging issues.
- Coordinate, conduct, participate, and travel to events in and out of state.
- Provide supervision of NDCPD staff.
- Develop other external funding resources to further disability research, services, training, and technical assistance.
- Participate in internal NDCPD committees and activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications: Qualified applicants should have the following qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree with a major in Business or Public Administration, or a related business field, or Social Work or related behavioral science is preferred; other degrees will be considered. Applicants must have 1 year of related work experience. Preference will be given to applicants holding a master’s degree or with lived experience.
- Experience with Office Suite (MS Office Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
- Experience working with information systems and data analysis.
- Be self-directed and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks via multiple supervisors and manage time efficiently.
- Ability to communicate professionally with people with disabilities, constituents, and staff.
- Successfully complete a criminal history background check.
