What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Camp Bus Driver position at Minot Family YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Kinder/Day Camp Coordinator and Day/Kinder Camp Lead, the Day/Kinder Camp Bus Driver provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Always promotes safety by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
- Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
- Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information, such as gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.
- Cleans out bus each day.
- Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
- Guide, motivate, and consistently interact with a group of 10-20 campers and work to ensure a positive, safe, and nurturing camp experience for each participant at all times.
- Follow planned schedule of activities and arrive at each session promptly. Works in conjunction with outside organizations for activities.
- Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Greet and assist all members, potential members, volunteers, and staff in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner. Be enthusiastic towards members by learning their names and expressing an interest in their YMCA activities. Strive to enrich their YMCA experience by introducing them to new programs, staff, members, and volunteer activities.
- Respond to members' needs. Contact appropriate personnel when necessary. Handle complaints in a courteous manner. Effectively negotiate and resolve customer service problems.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the YMCA rules, policies, and emergency procedures and act as the control center for the Day Camp areas during emergency situations.
- Shares Day Camp program information with members, using available tools and resources (e.g., handouts, schedules).
- Assist other staff as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a current commercial driver's license with a passenger endorsement.
- Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid.
- Minimum of 1 year bus driver experience preferred or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with children with or without diverse abilities and special needs.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- This individual must familiarize themselves with YMCA rules and policies within 30 days of employment. Since this position is dealing directly with members, program participants, volunteers, and staff in a position of authority, above-average verbal communication skills are required.
