POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Facilities Director, Housekeepers perform routine janitorial duties in assigned areas ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of YMCA facilities and compliance with safety and sanitation standards. Works closely with Head of Housekeeping to maintain an attractive, safe, and welcoming environment for members, staff, and guests.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensure Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
  2. Maintains the cleanliness of all assigned areas; performs general cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, washing windows, dusting counters, desks, and filing cabinets, emptying wastebaskets, cleaning drinking fountains, etc.
  3. Restocks toilet paper, hand towels, soap, and trash bags; locks and unlocks doors.
  4. Utilizes and operates various machines and equipment in the delivery of service, such as vacuum cleaner, floor buffer, carpet shampooer, pressure washer, hand tools, snow blower, and snow shovels.
  5. Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  6. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  7. Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.
  8. Setting up/taking down equipment for programs, meetings, special events, and other maintenance logistical needs.
  9. Performs landscaping and facility maintenance to ensure a safe and attractive property year-round. Removes snow, ice and trash from around entryways to the building.
  10. Be alert to risk management and respond/repair to safety issues immediately.
  11. Remain familiar with emergency procedures in the program and the facility, understanding specific responsibilities in case of an emergency.
  12. Assist other staff as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Must be at least 16 years of age.
  2. Ability to work independently without constant direct supervision.
  3. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  4. Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
  5. Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
  6. Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  7. Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk and hear.
  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
  • Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  • Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.

Salary : $14 - $15
