POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Personal Trainer will instruct and educate members in proper strength training principles and/or fitness evaluation components in individual or small group settings. Demonstrate knowledge in designing and implementing personal fitness programs for all populations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop, implement, and instruct a variety of personal training and group training sessions for clients at an appropriate level and in the appropriate modality based on clients wants, needs, and ability. Provide encouragement and expertise for the client in support of their health and well-being goals.
- Maintains accurate client list and records. Administers, tracks, and evaluates health history questionnaires, fitness assessments, and other preparticipation documentation about individual exercise programs.
- Greet and assist all members, potential members, volunteers, and staff in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner. Be enthusiastic towards members by learning their names and expressing an interest in their YMCA activities. Strive to enrich their YMCA experience by introducing them to new programs, staff, members, and volunteer activities.
- Maintain working knowledge of wellness and fitness trends to provide effective information and support to members. Provides a cohesive approach to customer service and training that directly impacts the participant’s commitment and personal growth.
- Promote and sell YMCA personal training programs and services.
- Maintain required CECs and national certifications.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the YMCA rules, policies, and emergency procedures and act as the control center for the Training Center during emergency situations.

Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Personal Trainer Certification through a nationally recognized and accredited organization required. (AFAA, ACE, NSCA, NASM, or ACSM)
- Prior experience in personal training/wellness and training clients preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid
- Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people of all age groups, skills, and abilities from all social and economic segments of the community.
- This individual must familiarize themselves with YMCA rules and policies within 30 days of employment. Since this position is dealing directly with members, program participants, volunteers, and staff in a position of authority, above-average verbal communication skills are required.

- Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations. In this position, this person will not frequently be required to work in outside weather conditions.
- May frequently be exposed to high levels of exertion due to exercise, moderate noise levels from music, and wet and/or humid environments.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Acute hearing skills are required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
