- What are the primary objectives for this position in the first 6-12 months? Learn to support the existing application Merchandising portfolio. Provide support to primary SME so they can dedicate most of their time to the Retail Spine project. Understand critical processes so that issues can be addressed and recommend solutions that can be implemented by the DXC application development team.
- How much emphasis will be placed on writing functional requirements versus overseeing development activities? Functional requirements will need to be written and recommended development solutions reviewed and approved before the DXC team can move forward with development.
- Can you describe the level of involvement expected during UAT and implementation strategy planning? This position will be responsible for identifying business owners for UAT, monitoring their testing and sharing results back to the development team. If UAT issues arise, working with the development team to identify solutions will be critical.
- Which mainframe technologies are most critical for success in this role (COBOL, Easytrieve, IMS, VSAM, JCL, SQL, DB2)? COBOL and DB2 would be most critical. Understanding different database structures is helpful in reviewing issues.
- Are there any specific tools or platforms used for requirement documentation and test result reviews? No, they will be shown in-house processes.
- Will the candidate need to interact directly with the mainframe environment or only through documentation and vendor oversight? Yes, they will be provided a user ID and expected to access the MF. Being able to navigate and review different elements will be helpful.
- What is the nature of the relationship with the third-party development team—how hands-on should the candidate be in guiding them? They will be very involved. There will be multiple meetings per week to discuss issues, solutions, and project progress.
- How often will the candidate collaborate with business stakeholders during requirement gathering and UAT? We have a business team that is often responsible for creating BRD's. From meetings discussing the BRD's, FRD's will be written to share with the development team. In some instances, there will be meetings directly with business partners and work will be defined from their input.
- What does success look like for this role, and how will performance be measured? Success will be determined by their ability to provide clear solutions for issues or specific project requirements. Being able to provide direction to the development team, gather LOE's, plan task requirements and delivery on these will be critical. Communicating when issues arise, and what are the impacts are the result of conflicting requirements, or shifting scope, is paramount to being successful.
- Are there any known challenges or pain points in the current process that this role is expected to address? Project priorities can change, and new mandated activities occur, resulting in the team being asked to provide quick solutioning and replanning of current activities.
