Responsibilities
- Offer peer support and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders
- Share personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and resilience among clients
- Assist clients in developing recovery plans aligned with harm reduction principles and client-centered approaches
- Facilitate crisis management and intervention strategies to ensure client safety during emergencies
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and connect clients with appropriate services
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client information in accordance with privacy laws and organizational policies
- Advocate for clients’ needs within culturally diverse communities, promoting social inclusion and empowerment
Skills
- Strong understanding of behavioral health, mental health counseling, addiction counseling, and social work principles
- Proven experience in crisis management, crisis intervention, and harm reduction techniques
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds and those with complex co-occurring disorders
- Excellent client communication skills, including active listening and empathetic engagement
- Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and implementing recovery peer support strategies
- Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation and care coordination
- Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and practicing ethical peer support advocacy
