Payroll Analyst II – Workday Payroll | Hybrid | Lake County, IL
A leading global biopharmaceutical organization is seeking a Payroll Analyst II to join its enterprise payroll operations team supporting large-scale U.S. payroll activities in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. This is a hybrid opportunity based in Lake County, Illinois, with a schedule of onsite Tuesday–Thursday and remote work Monday & Friday.
This role is ideal for payroll professionals with strong hands-on experience in Workday Payroll, multi-state payroll processing, payroll audits, reconciliations, and payroll issue resolution within large enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support end-to-end payroll processing for a large U.S.-based employee population across multiple states and business units
- Review and validate payroll reports, payroll reconciliation files, bank files, and payroll-related data prior to payroll submission
- Process payroll corrections and resolve payroll discrepancies involving terminations, leave of absence (LOA), overpayments, retro pay, and time tracking issues
- Work within Workday Payroll to review employee payroll data, run reports, troubleshoot issues, and support payroll operations
- Coordinate with payroll vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve payroll processing and integration issues
- Support payroll audits, compliance reviews, and year-end payroll activities including tax-related reporting and employee payroll documentation
- Respond to employee and manager payroll inquiries through service center/case management processes
- Maintain organized payroll records, audit trails, and documentation to support compliance and operational accuracy
- Partner closely with HR, Finance, Treasury, Tax, Accounting, and HR Operations teams to support payroll activities and process improvements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Human Resources, or related field
- Hands-on experience processing payroll in a large enterprise environment
- Strong experience with Workday Payroll
- Experience supporting multi-state U.S. payroll operations
- Knowledge of payroll reconciliations, payroll audits, payroll compliance, and payroll issue resolution
- Experience working with payroll vendors such as ADP, Ceridian/Dayforce, or SuccessFactors environments
- Strong analytical, reporting, and Excel skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and stakeholders
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience handling payroll exceptions including LOA, severance, terminations, garnishments, and overpayments
- Experience supporting payroll integrations or payroll vendor coordination
- Shared services or enterprise payroll operations experience
- CPP or payroll-related certifications are a plus
