Position Summary:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing Engineered Systems projects and people with an emphasis on harmonizing the technical solutions of the team.
The Engineering Manager – Engineered Systems is a seasoned level position. The ES team is responsible for managing fluid power engineering designs through the quote, specification, design, build, installation and qualification stages of small to mid-size projects. When needed, the manager will act in the capacity of a Fluid Power engineer on projects where application and design of fluid power concepts are required. The company will rely on this manager to be the subject matter expert in fluid power engineering and design with the ability to create cost-effective solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Leads, mentors, and inspire the ES engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning as well as providing technical guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
• Directs continuous improvement efforts in the Engineered Systems team by identifying opportunities for system enhancements, cost reduction, and reduction in non-value-added work.
• Interacts with customers to develop a deep understanding of requirements and deliverables related to design/build fluid power projects.
• Collaborates with team to engineer/design cost effective solutions that meet customer requirements. This includes developing a detailed understanding of qualification requirements as a condition of system buy-off.
• Works with the quoting engineering team to develop accurate costing for Engineered Systems proposals.
• Manages and executes project plans and delivery commitments. Delivers projects on time, on-cost, and in-spec.
• Coordinates and approves all engineering releases and changes related to projects under your control.
• Effectively manages multiple priorities.
• Maintains detailed documentation as required.
• Provides input to schedules, plans and forecasts as knowledge of production status develops.

• Experience in managing or supervising in an engineering or technical capacity.
• Expert knowledge in fluid power, mechanical and machine design.
• Knowledgeable in electrical engineering and controls systems.
• Skilled in the use of CAD design software to create complete mechanical designs, schematics, drawings and BOMs. SolidWorks a plus.
• Knowledgeable in mechanical principles, machining practices, metal properties and the applications of mathematics and dimensions to production machinery and tooling.
• Expert in modern fabrication, assembly techniques and machine shop practices and techniques.
• Strong decision-making skills and able to manage risk-taking, able to recognize and support the organization’s preferences and priorities.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Able to mentally visualize and comprehend all aspects of fluid power, manufacturing equipment or designs and function, understand the interrelationships of factors affecting a given solution and be attentive to detail.
• Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with new innovations to economically solve production problems in a timely manner.
• Capable of working effectively and on own initiative with little or no direction or guidelines.
• Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities.
• Results-oriented, with the ability to balance other business considerations.
• Proficient computer skills – experience building project plans with software tools such as MS Project.
Education and Experience:
• 4-year degree in an Engineering discipline. Mechanical preferred.
• 5-10 years of experience in engineering design of fluid power systems and solutions.
• 3 years of experience managing people or projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Supervises the ES department operation and staff.
Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Both office and manufacturing environment.
• Travel to other RG Group locations or to customer locations as needed.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
