CNC Carbide Grinder Operator

Position Summary

Miller Broach is seeking an experienced CNC Carbide Grinder Operator to set up and operate CNC grinding equipment used to manufacture and grind precision carbide cutting tools and components.

The right candidate will understand precision grinding, carbide tooling, blueprint requirements, inspection methods, and machine adjustments. You must be able to recognize problems, make corrections, and consistently produce quality work within tight tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC carbide grinding machines.
• Load programs, tooling, fixtures, grinding wheels, and workpieces.
• Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and inspection requirements.
• Verify machine settings and inspect first-piece and in-process parts.
• Measure parts using micrometers, calipers, indicators, comparators, and other precision inspection equipment.
• Monitor grinding operations for wheel wear, finish, size, taper, runout, and other quality conditions.
• Make machine offsets and process adjustments to maintain specifications.
• Dress, change, and maintain grinding wheels as required.
• Troubleshoot machine, tooling, setup, and quality issues.
• Complete production, inspection, scrap, and quality documentation.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and keep the machine and work area clean.
• Communicate job status, problems, and ongoing needs between shifts.
• Follow all company safety, quality, and housekeeping requirements.

Qualifications

• Previous CNC grinding experience required.
• Carbide grinding or carbide cutting tool experience strongly preferred.
• Experience setting up CNC grinding equipment preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand dimensional tolerances.
• Ability to use precision measuring and inspection equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and maintain consistent quality.
• Basic computer skills and experience entering production information.
• Willingness to learn Miller Broach tooling, processes, and quality standards.

Preferred Experience

• Manufacturing or regrinding carbide cutting tools.
• Broach tools, form tools, inserts, drills, end mills, or similar precision tooling.
• Grinding tight tolerances and complex tool geometry.
• Wheel selection, dressing, offsets, feeds, speeds, and grinding parameters.
• Inspection equipment such as optical comparators, height gauges, or tool inspection systems.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and operate equipment for most of the shift.
• Ability to lift and move material, fixtures, tooling, and grinding wheels.
• Ability to safely use lifting equipment when required.
• Ability to work around grinding coolant, carbide dust collection systems, and manufacturing equipment.

Pay: From $24.60 per hour
