Mill Steel Company is excited to announce we are seeking an experienced Director of Operations to take our organization to new heights operationally. This position will require extensive and regular travel to our multi-state locations and customers across the country. The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the success of Mill Steel Company’s Steel Distribution and Processing Centers nationally. This position, reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, will be essential in providing operational leadership, will support and foster customer relationships and bridge communication between the operations and fulfillment team. This role will have the unique opportunity to be a guiding force that influences and drives operational objectives and results.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Oversee and coordinate operations between Mill Steel Company’s multi-state locations.
  • Coordinate and direct operational activities to meet goals and objectives in line with established business growth goals.
  • Partner with our skilled Plant Management group to meet operational objectives and streamline efficiencies in safety and plant performance measures.
  • Evaluate and reports on operational activities in relation to Mill Steel Company’s established goals and objectives.
  • Evaluate, review, and provide executive level analysis and process implementation for improvements.
  • Hands on management in the areas of Lean Manufacturing techniques, steel quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicates Mill Steel Company’s organizational vision, operational and financial goals.
  • Bridges financial information to operations and tracks and measures costs to budget and forecast.
  • Regular hands-on management of working capital.
  • Responsible for analyzing, summarizing, and communicating the financial results of all steel manufacturing operations.
  • Monthly review of actuals vs budget.
  • Collaborate cross -functionally with Directors across all business units to ensure the satisfactory delivery of Mill Steel Company goods and products.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledgeable in all facets of operations management in the manufacturing environment including sales, safety, environmental, quality systems, and overall steel operations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must possess and be able to apply a broad knowledge of planning principles, policies, and practices.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external individuals and groups to achieve goals through negotiation, motivation, problem-solving and feedback.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

Education and Experience:

  • 10 years of relevant Operations and Business Management experience
  • Steel Service Center experience and knowledge required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Mill Steel Company is a multi-state company, this role requires the ability and willingness to travel regularly.
  • Must have access to a major metropolitan airport.
  • Extensive travel is to be expected (approximately 75%)

Salary : $116,000 - $147,000
