Controller
Davila Homes is an Orlando-based luxury home builder known for creating exceptional residences that blend elegance, craftsmanship, and cutting-edge design. We have an opening for an experienced Controller. This role is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions in a manner aligned with our company core values of Acting with Integrity, Building the People, Cultivating Collaboration, Celebrating Success, and Being the Example.
This role ensures accurate financial statements, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP, Florida-specific regulations, and lender requirements common to residential construction. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in residential construction or homebuilding in Florida, with a strong understanding of job costing, work-in-progress (WIP), land acquisition and development accounting, impact fees, and multi-entity structures common in Florida markets.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Financial Reporting & Close
- Oversee and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process
- Prepare and review timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage consolidations for multiple entities, communities, and joint ventures
- Ensure proper revenue recognition, WIP reporting, and cost capitalization
Job Costing & Construction Accounting
- Maintain accurate job cost accounting for homes, land development, and common area projects
- Review budgets, cost-to-complete forecasts, and margin analyses
- Partner with construction and operations teams to identify cost variances and risks
- Ensure accurate tracking of direct and indirect construction costs
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Establish, maintain, and improve internal controls and accounting policies
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Coordinate audits, reviews, and tax filings with external auditors and tax advisors
- Support lender reporting, bonding, and covenant compliance
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Oversee cash flow forecasting and liquidity management
- Monitor lines of credit, construction loans, and draw requests
- Review and approve disbursements, AP, and cash management processes
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
- Set performance goals and ensure timely completion of deliverables
- Promote cross-functional collaboration with purchasing, construction, sales, and land teams
Systems & Process Improvement
- Oversee accounting systems and job cost software (e.g., Buildertrend, Sage, JD Edwards, Viewpoint, QuickBooks, etc.)
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve reporting, and increase automation
- Support system implementations and upgrades as needed
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior experience in residential homebuilding or construction accounting, preferably in Florida
- Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP accounting, revenue recognition, and percentage-of-completion methods
- Experience with Florida-specific construction practices, including impact fees, permits, and development costs
- Experience managing month-end close and financial reporting
- Advanced Excel skills
Preferred:
- CPA or CMA designation
- Experience with Florida residential permitting, impact fees, and land development accounting
- Experience with multi-entity and multi-community structures
- Familiarity with Florida lender draw processes and construction loan reporting
- Experience working with external auditors, lenders, and tax professionals
