What are the responsibilities and job description for the Case Manager position at Mike Morse Service Organization LLC?
Looking for a highly organized and responsible case manager/paralegal to work in the Appellate Department of the Mike Morse Law Firm. The Appellate Department has an active docket of appeals, aids in researching and writing motions and motion responses in trial courts, and has several other administrative roles at the Mike Morse Law Firm. This posting is for an administrative position that is primarily focused on streamlining, auditing, and reviewing Notices of Intent (NOI) but may also include other organizational and administrative tasks. This role is not client-facing and will directly report to the Appellate Attorney tasked with overseeing all NOI issues at the Mike Morse Law Firm. Qualified candidates should have experience using the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and case/practice management software. Prior experience with NOI issues is preferred, but the position is open to any highly organized candidates.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as an internal auditor for all NOIs filed on behalf of the firm.
- Review new cases to determine whether an NOI is required, including:
- Construction and highway defect cases against the State of Michigan (SOM), MDOT, and local governmental entities
- Claims involving negligent state employees
- Dram Shop Act claims
- Other statutory notice-required claims
- Verify statutory deadlines and calculate applicable notice periods to ensure accuracy.
- Review draft NOIs prepared by paralegals and support staff to confirm statutory compliance, accuracy, and proper service upon the correct parties.
- Assist in supervising and monitoring NOI service deadlines to ensure firm-wide compliance.
- Identify procedural deficiencies and recommend corrective action when necessary
