Midwest Co-Pack in Winona is looking for an detail oriented and experienced Quality Technician.
Position Summary
This job monitors quality of ingredients and finished product, conducts internal auditing, reviews and files daily paperwork, maintains and controls documents, other Quality department requirements. Knowledge of Organic, gluten/allergen free, and nutraceuticals a plus. This position is a training position for potential promotion to QA Supervisor.
Job Details
· Kitchen monitoring, evaluation, documentation to include:
· Temp and Brix (Solids) checks, collection and testing of samples.
· Volume measurements and calibrations.
· Verification of ingredients
· Mogul monitoring, evaluation, documentation to include:
· Temperature and Moisture testing and monitoring.
· Dot test and sensory evaluation (color/flavor/appearance).
· Deposit Temp and Brix testing.
· Sampling and delivery of samples.
· Verification of ingredients used in sanding and polishing
· Packaging monitoring, evaluation, documentation, to include:
· Water activity and monitoring.
· Auditing Critical Control Points.
· Metal Detection of finished product on a scheduled basis.
· Candy and Package sensory evaluation.
· Accuracy and quality of the package, contents, and its identification
· QA Lab
· Perform tests on products and document results.
· Perform routine micro testing and analysis
· Understand functions and perform routine maintenance of testing equipment.
· Administrative
· Daily upkeep of records
· Document creation and control
· Internal auditing
· Collecting, sending samples for retain, micro and customer approval
· Conduct new hire and annual refresher training for the plant personnel
· Maintain BRC audit readiness
· All processes to be completed while following Food Safety Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices.
· Follow established plant operating and cleaning procedures.
· Assist with On-the-Job training of new and existing employees.
· Cover vacations and overtime as needed or required.
· Assist other positions and departments, as needed.
· Perform other work as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
To perform successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Be able to work a full 12 hour or longer shift plus overtime, as needed.
- Physically handle the duties assigned, including cleaning.
- Self-Starter and Team Member, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willing to perform audits, communicate observations, teach and assist in training team members quality related skills, and aid in keeping our functions within desired parameters.
- Able to learn new skills as needed to ensure the products produced meet Quality goals of the company and Quality goals of the customer.
- Must maintain an excellent attendance record.
- Possess neat penmanship, provide accurate and complete documentation and data entry (Computer skills).
- Possess good Sensory skills, (taste, smell and color vision).
- Must be knowledgeable in Food Safety, Legality, and Quality systems of the plant; to include HACCP, FSMA, Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, Safety and Sanitary regulations.
- Must become cross-trained in all QA functions of the plant; understand the methodology of recalls and the skills to assist in recalls, as needed.
- Follow proper safety policies, procedures, and rules; report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and near misses; assist in accident investigation; assist with safety analysis.
- Show up on time ready to work.
- Able to work in a hot and/or cool environment.
- Perform work independently as required.
- Attend required annual and assigned educational training classes.
- Attend and participate in departmental and safety meetings.
- Learn the theory, procedures and practices involved in the operation and equipment of the position, including any new operations and equipment assigned by management.
- Work proficiently, neatly and accurately at the speeds required.
- Perform the job duties resulting in a high-quality product.
- Perform necessary routine cleaning and preventive maintenance.
- Able to learn and perform various functions of the department to perform those functions.
- Operate the equipment used regularly by this position.
- Perform all duties assigned by Supervision.
- Maintain confidentiality of operations, records and documents.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to understand and/or read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals written or given orally in English.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
