Position Summary
The Inventory Control & Receiving Coordinator II level is an hourly, non-exempt position responsible for receiving, storing, issuing, and maintaining accurate inventory records for raw materials, packaging supplies, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods at Midwest Co-Pack. This role supports production efficiency, food safety, and audit readiness by ensuring materials are received correctly, inventoried accurately, and handled in compliance with GMP and company policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Receive incoming raw materials and packaging supplies; verify counts, condition, lot numbers, and documentation
Ensure materials are properly labeled, palletized, and stored according to GMP, allergen, and FIFO/FEFO requirements
Maintain accurate inventory records for ingredients, packaging materials, WIP, and finished goods
Perform routine cycle counts and assist with scheduled physical inventories
Stage and issue materials to production based on production schedules and work orders
Enter all inventory and receiving transactions accurately and timely into the ERP or inventory system
Investigate and report inventory discrepancies, shortages, damages, or overages to supervision
Communicate low inventory levels, delivery issues, or material concerns to Purchasing and Operations
Support traceability and recall readiness through accurate lot tracking and documentation
Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Warehouse teams to ensure material availability
Maintain clean, organized, and audit-ready warehouse and inventory storage areas
Follow all Midwest Co-Pack safety, attendance, food safety, and GMP policies
Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations
In addition, these higher level duties are also required:
Core Responsibilities
- Inventory Analysis & Forecasting: Analyzing sales trends and customer demand to develop accurate forecasts, preventing both stockouts and excess inventory.
- Discrepancy Resolution: Investigating and resolving complex inbound/outbound shipping errors and stock inconsistencies.
- Cycle Count Leadership: Planning and leading regular physical audits and cycle counts to maintain 99% inventory accuracy.
- Process Improvement: Identifying and implementing strategies to improve inventory turnover rates and reduce operational waste.
- Vendor & Department Liaison: Coordinating with manufacturers, procurement, and sales teams to manage returns, quality issues, and replenishment needs.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems like SAP or Oracle, and high proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience: Typically requires years of experience in supply chain, logistics, or warehouse operations.
- Education: A high school diploma is often the minimum, but many senior roles prefer a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Logistics.
- Certifications: (A plus, but not required)Professional credentials such as the CPIM (Certified in Planning and Inventory Management) from ASCM (formerly APICS) can significantly enhance career prospects.
Food Safety, Quality & GMP Responsibilities
Follow all GMP, food safety, allergen control, and sanitation procedures
Prevent cross-contamination by properly handling and storing ingredients and packaging
Report any food safety, quality, or inventory concerns immediately to supervision or Quality
Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits as required
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Previous experience in receiving, inventory control, warehouse, or manufacturing preferred
Basic computer skills and ability to learn ERP or inventory management systems
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
Reliable attendance and punctuality
