Midland University, a private, faith-based, liberal arts university, is seeking a part-time Learning Coordinator to support Midland's Reentry Code Academy offered through the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Vocational and Life Skills (VLS) program at the McCook, NE, NDCS Work Ethic Camp. The Reentry Code Academy is a course where students learn software development and coding skills.
Job Duties:
The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day on-site operations of the Reentry Code Academy in the McCook, Nebraska, NDCS Work Ethic Camp. This includes helping distribute student laptops, taking attendance, basic technical support, and communicating with the remote instructor. The candidate will also support students by helping with job readiness, being a support liaison between the student and potential employers in job placements, and assisting with the navigation of available resources and services. The candidate will need to complete the NDCS Pre-Service Training Academy to help prepare them for working in a correctional environment and includes a range of topics including communication, professional boundaries, emergency preparedness, CPR/First Aid, and self-defense.
Key Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Daily classroom setup
- Class runs from 8am-11am M-F with setup and clean up before and after class
- Basic technical support for students
- Communication with remote instructors
- Employment preparation and support
- Collaborate with potential employers for job placement opportunities
Skills and Abilities Needed:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficient with office productivity tools (Zoom, Microsoft Office or Google Workspace)
- A thorough understanding of the value of continuing education
- A commitment to supporting students in gaining skills necessary for meaningful employment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Pre-Service Training Academy completion (or willingness to complete)
Experience Desired:
- 1 years working within the Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) or a similar setting
- Pre-Service Training Academy completion to for work in the NDCS.
