Job Description:
We are looking for a skilled Mechanic to maintain and repair vehicles. You will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of machines, vehicles and mechanical systems. Mechanics are responsible for conducting diagnostic services per department standards and factory specifications; deviation from standards and specifications require management pre-approval. This position requires the ability to self-manage, self-motivate, communicate seamlessly and have a sense of urgency that team members and customers expect.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Create a proper estimate informing your customer on discrepancies or abnormalities including the time to perform the service and parts required for the job
Recommend additional repairs or maintenance needed to improve the value of the vehicle
Perform assigned repairs and maintenance
Keep supervisor informed of job status, especially when job is interrupted or delayed.
Keep supervisor informed on progress / problems with work load. Request assistance as needed
Test and recheck all repairs and road test all comebacks as assigned by the Managers
Properly complete all work order documentation
Check off each job and return the work order to the Manager once work is complete
Maintain and improve technical expertise through technical bulletins, trade publications and training seminars
Advise your Manager of all equipment breakdowns and required maintenance immediately
Respond to and follow proper procedures on employee and customer accidents, injuries, and loss or damage to any property. Report all incidents to the Manager
A/C, Heater & Refrigeration - Flush system contaminants, evacuate system, add oil and charge with Freon
Recognize frame or structural damage- Complete multi-point inspection on sale vehicles
Run OEM performance tests and verify performance, utilize electrical schematics, identify and correct related problems
Ability to diagnose and repair the following:
Brakes - Diagnose bake problems, replace cylinders and calipers, Perform failure analysis of components
Electrical Charging Systems - Perform full diagnostic, including in-depth analysis and corrections
Clutch - Perform failure analysis for premature or abuse
Cooling systems – Diagnose & replace all fan clutch types, diagnose all control systems
Electrical Cranking System - Analyze to identify root cause
Lighting system and Electrical Accessories - Evaluate lighting system configuration and application, diagnose, isolate and repair difficult lighting system problems, such as shorted and open circuits, replace entire lighting circuits such as looms, or circuit breaker panels on power units
Drive Axels - Inspect housing for leaks, perform diagnostics and repairs as required
Driveline - Lubricate drive lines
All Engines – Check/ adjust oil level, Identify unusual noises and oil leaks
Fuel Systems - Diagnose all fuel system malfunctions, make adjustments to fuel system components, Repair and replace electrical fuel system components including injectors
Preventative Maintenance – Full fault code identification
Steering, Axle and Alignment – Diagnose/repair power steering, Disassemble, diagnose/repair steering gear boxes
Suspension-Chassis and Cab - Diagnose hard to find problems and all types of system problems, maintain, repair and replace all chassis components, perform failure analysis and substantiate premature failure
Tire and wheel maintenance - Repair and replace tire and wheel assemblies
Qualifications include:
High School Diploma or equivalent required- ASE Certifications are preferred but not required
3 to 5 years of auto mechanic experience preferred
Strong verbal and written communication and interaction skills required
Ability to sit, stand, climb stairs, squat, knee and walk for prolonged periods of time, must be able to lift 5-50 pounds. Vision abilities required
Potential – running, jumping, yelling, or other rapid or forceful movement in emergency situations
Good computer and software knowledge – able to operate diagnostic test equipment
Professional phone etiquette
Must be able to drive vehicles with standard or automatic transmissions
Qualified to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license
Must have basic tools for Auto Mechanic work (wrenches, sockets, plyers, screwdrivers)
This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental working conditions, including temperature changes, outside weather conditions, slightly elevated ambient noise levels, minor potential physical hazards, such as electrical current , moving mechanical parts, exposure to hot equipment and cleaning and pesticide chemicals; and minor atmospheric conditions affecting skin or respiratory systems, such as fumes, odors and dusts associated with internal and external service station/convenience food and petroleum dispensing operations
