Our client is a mid-size GC that has a strong background of healthcare and institutional construction projects throughout the Southeast of the US (Florida, Georgia and the Carolina's).
Job Description
Field Leadership & Planning
- Own the master and look-ahead schedules (3-6 weeks), sequencing, and phasing plans for occupied and sensitive spaces; drive daily/weekly production against milestones.
- Develop and manage site logistics plans: material flow, laydown, hoisting, site access, student/patient/public separation, egress, traffic control, and emergency plans.
- Lead daily huddles, weekly subcontractor coordination meetings, and pull-planning sessions; issue agendas, minutes, and action logs.
- Champion a zero-incident safety culture; enforce company and project-specific HSE programs, JHAs, toolbox talks, and corrective actions.
- Implement and monitor ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment), ILSM (Interim Life Safety Measures), NFPA life safety paths, and negative air/containment for healthcare work.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, local AHJ, Department of Education, and facility policies (badging, background checks, after-hours work, shutdown protocols).
- Oversee QA/QC plans: first-work inspections, mockups, pre-install meetings, BIM/VDC coordination reviews, and punchlist/buyout closeout.
- Manage MEP systems installations, startup/commissioning sequencing, TAB, pressure tests, and life-safety inspections (fire alarm, sprinklers, smoke control, egress).
- Proactively resolve field conflicts through RFI generation, detail review, and collaboration with design teams and commissioning agents.
- Serve as the primary on-site contact for owners, facility leadership, principals, nurses/clinicians, teachers, and inspectors.
- Coordinate shutdowns, after-hours work, testing/inspections, and occupied-area transitions with minimal disruption to learning or patient care.
- Support change management (field pricing, scope clarifications) and align subcontractors to approved directives.
- Monitor labor productivity, material deliveries, and equipment utilization; escalate risks to the PM with mitigation plans.
- Validate progress for pay applications, track T&M work, and manage backcharges and recoveries as needed.
- Maintain as-builts, daily reports, safety logs, inspection records, and closeout documentation.
The Successful Applicant
- 8-12 years of field leadership experience with at least 3 large projects ($20M ) in healthcare and/or K-12 as a lead or area superintendent.
- Demonstrated expertise delivering work in occupied facilities with complex logistics and compliance requirements.
- Deep knowledge of construction means and methods, MEP systems, building enclosures, interiors, and life-safety systems.
- Proficiency with scheduling (Primavera P6 or MS Project), BIM/VDC coordination workflows, and digital field tools (Procore, PlanGrid/Autodesk Build, Bluebeam).
