Job Description
High‑Voltage Substation Physical Design
- Create or modify:
- Single‑line diagrams and general arrangements
- Detailed elevations, section views, and installation details
- Bills of materials, bid units, and material counts
- Perform calculations related to:
- Equipment and conductor sizing
- Rigid bus strength
- Insulation coordination
- Grounding and lightning protection
- Experience with electrical system analysis tools preferred (ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, PSS/E, PSLF, CDEGS, WinIGS)
- Familiarity with design tools preferred (Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, MicroStation)
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines as needed
- Conduct site visits for data gathering and as‑builts
- Write procurement and construction specifications
- Evaluate contractor bids
- Review shop drawings and verify conformance with design/specifications
- Support factory acceptance testing
- Provide field support during construction and commissioning
- Help teach and mentor junior engineers and design staff
- Support fee estimates and proposal development
- Participate in occasional overnight travel for client meetings or site visits
The Successful Applicant
A Successful Substation Engineer Should Have
- B.S. degree from an ABET‑accredited university
- 5 years of substation physical design experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work legally in the U.S. without restriction
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Experience managing design budgets and schedules is a plus
- Experience supporting marketing/proposal efforts is preferred
- Competitive salary ranging from $135,000 to $165,000 USD annually.
