Job Description
Responsibilities for the Mold Tolling Engineer Manager include:
- Lead and manage an internal tool shop, including toolmakers and mold design engineers, ensuring strong technical execution and efficient workflow.
- Conduct thorough DFM reviews on new product designs, identifying tooling risks, manufacturability opportunities, and critical features such as parting lines, draft, undercuts, and shut‑offs.
- Design and review molds for injection‑molded components, over‑molded strain reliefs, and cable‑related tooling.
- Provide guidance on gating, venting, cooling, steel conditions, slides, lifters, and other mold actions to ensure optimal mold performance.
- Partner closely with product engineering teams to ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and aligned with cost and quality targets.
- Collaborate with domestic and international mold shops during design, build, debugging, and qualification phases.
- Support sustaining engineering by resolving tooling‑related issues, improving yields, and implementing updates or refinements as needed.
The Successful Applicant
A Successful Mold Tooling Engineering Manager Should Have
- 10 years of experience in mold design, tooling engineering, or toolmaking with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Degree in engineering, manufacturing, or related technical field, or equivalent technical hands‑on experience.
- Strong proficiency with SolidWorks and the ability to perform effective DFM and feasibility reviews.
- Experience in regulated environments such as medical device manufacturing.
- Comfortable working with global partners and supporting tools throughout their lifecycle.
- Background in medical connector or cable assembly tooling is a strong plus, along with familiarity with validation processes (IQ/OQ/PQ).
