Job Description
- Design and develop overhead and underground distribution systems (4 kV - 35 kV) including primary and secondary networks, feeders, and service connections.
- Prepare one-line diagrams, schematics, plan & profile drawings, and construction-ready documents using CAD or BIM software.
- Conduct load flow, fault current, voltage drop, and short-circuit calculations to ensure system reliability and compliance with utility standards.
- Review and select appropriate transformers, switchgear, protective devices, and other distribution equipment for projects.
- Collaborate with clients, project managers, and field construction teams to support project planning, design iterations, and on-site troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with utility companies for permitting, approvals, and system integration requirements.
- Assist with field inspections, commissioning, and startup of distribution systems, verifying design integrity and adherence to safety standards.
- Identify and resolve design or operational issues, providing innovative solutions to meet project timelines and budgets.
- Maintain accurate documentation of designs, revisions, and calculations to support engineering standards and audits.
- Mentor junior engineers and CAD technicians, sharing knowledge and best practices in distribution design.
The Successful Applicant
A successful Distribution Engineer - T&D / Power Delivery should have:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 3 years of experience in distribution engineering or utility design.
- Knowledge of distribution voltages (4-35 kV) and associated equipment (transformers, feeders, switches).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD tools.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- An hourly pay rate between $75 and $85, depending on experience.
